Attendance Policy

Tri-County Career Center will work cooperatively with students/parents/guardians on attendance concerns. Regular school attendance is essential for success at Tri-County Career Center and in the workplace. Excessive absenteeism often results in poor performance, limited job skills, lower grades, failure, loss of credit, and dismissal from the program.

If a student is considered absent from school, the student is marked absent on his/her attendance record. Documentation describing the reason for an absence must be submitted to the Attendance Office within two school days of the student’s return to school.

Any student accumulating absences, out-of-school suspensions, and/or truancies that total more than 8 school days during a semester WILL NOT receive credits for that semester. If there are extenuating circumstances for excessive absences totaling more than 8 school days a semester, a student may submit their case to an attendance committee for review.

The following absence reasons may be considered legitimate for review by the attendance committee:
    1. Personal illness documented with a doctor's statement describing the illness
    2. Illness in the immediate family that requires the student to remain home through doctor's orders or parent's need
    3. Death of a relative (limited to three days unless given administrative approval)
    4. Quarantine of the home
    5. Observation of a religious holiday
    6. Other reasons, with principal's approval

Students are excused for the following school approved reasons and will not be marked absent:
    1. home school busses do not run to Tri-County due to inclement weather
    2. approved field trips
    3. approved home school activities with prior approval
    4. college visits/military testing with prior guidance/instructor approval (maximum of 3 days). Forms are available in the attendance office.
    5. job interview with prior guidance/instructor approval (maximum of 3 days)

Half-days, late arrivals, and early outs:

  • Any student arriving at school after 8:30 a.m. will be marked absent one half day. Any student leaving school before 1:50 p.m. will be marked absent one half day.
  • Any student who is present at school but does not participate in planned field trips or activities will be counted absent unless prior arrangements are made by the instructor through the principal's office.
  • A student's attendance and coming to class on time is reflective of their level of performance and in their level of competency achieved. Students who are habitually absent and/or truant from school may be expelled. If a student is under 18 years of age, juvenile court officials may be involved to help resolve attendance concerns.
